The commitment to sustainability and eco-friendly business practices at PSB, Inc.

Responding to the global climate concerns and sustainability issues, PSB, Inc. has taken a proactive step in contributing to practices that benefit the environment. Below are some of the ways we manage our operation in an environmentally-conscious manner:

Environmentally-sensitive Paper Stock
As a printer that uses paper as a primary ingredient to create our products, we are keenly aware that we must protect our resources. We utilize FSC (Forestry Stewardship Council)-approved stock where appropriate and make a point to recommend and suggest this stock to clients. The FSC is an advocacy group that ensures responsible harvesting of forests, appropriate economic practices in the indigenous logging communities, and educates consumers on these important issues. You can learn more about the Forestry Stewardship Council at: www.fsc.org.

Electricity Reduction - Self Generation

In 2003 PSB reconfigured the pressroom heating and cooling system to natural gas-powered electrical generators. This allows significantly savings during the summer months by employing a "peak shave" process to reduce electricity.

Paper Recycling

We routinely recycle in excess of two tons of paper each week. Virtually all the waste paper that flows through here is recycled.

Aluminum Recycling
Our operation uses aluminum plates for our printing presses. Each week these spent plates are recycled through a metals reclamation company.

Hazardous Materials/Waste Disposal
Many of the chemicals we use in our production processes require special handling for disposal. Each week we send out our pressroom cloth wipes to a service that extracts all the chemicals from the fabrics and either recycles or disposes these chemicals in certified landfills. The cloth wipes are returned to us for reuse.

Ride Share
As a company we encourage carpooling where it makes sense. We post a carpool list showing the city/area of each employee broken out by zones (i.e. South County Coastal, North County Coastal, etc.) and then recommend that those interested in carpooling coordinate with other employees in their respective areas.

Environmentally-sensitive Employee Culture
With recycle bins located throughout our offices, automatic lights that turn-off when a room in unoccupied, and an employee kitchen devoid of one-way utensils, PSB is encouraging a more responsible mind set among its 90+ Lake Forest employees.
